Yes, this painting is a piece of wildlife art, showcasing what I consider to be an exceedingly handsome and intelligent species of bird, proudly positioned on his perch of choice.  However, the juxtaposition of the raven, the great black bird so often associated with fear and foreboding, against a brilliantly lit billowing cumulus cloud also produces a symbolic paradox which to me is a conceptual exploration of rethinking preconceived notions and traditional metaphors.  The colors used in the painting and the imagery of the leafless branches bring to mind the brilliantly crisp coldness usually associated with great altitude or the very depths of winter.  However, the absence of any terrestrial reference point in the painting leaves the exact season and location of this untamed setting somewhat ambiguous.
