The Persecutor – Fired Clay – 5.5″ x 5.75″ x 7″*
This sculpture is available for purchase. Please contact Dean to inquire.
One of the many poignant and iconic moments in scripture is the conversion of the Apostle Paul, who was formerly Saul, persecutor of Christ’s followers. It was meaningful to me, in sculpting this portrait, to be working in raw clay, leaving much of the original roughness of the tool marks in the surface. It reminds me of how Paul himself became like clay in the Lord’s hands, God seeing Paul’s potential for becoming far more than what he had become. This sculpture represents the Apostle’s conversion, and the blankness of his eyes suggests the temporary physical blindness Paul experienced after literally seeing the light and hearing the Lord’s voice speaking to him, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”
