One of my favorite painters in history is John Singer Sargent, known for his virtuosic brushwork in portraiture.  I love to think of his work when painting a subject like this girl where the texture of her blouse is better implied by loose brush strokes than by meticulous detail.  The resulting highlights work in concert with similar paint techniques in other areas of the piece (such as the face and background) to create a unified whole.  This is one of the few paintings where my signature is at the top rather than the bottom of the piece.
