Acrylic Anatomical Artwork

Healthy Lung –  Acrylic on Illustration Board

Because the human body comprises such a wide array of tissues and organs, medical artists have many opportunities to experiment with unusual textures and widely varying techniques to describe the anatomy. Illustrators also need to call upon imagination to reveal visual information which would otherwise be imperceptible. In this piece, which I created for Pulmonary Board Review Manual, the lungs’ surface tissue is rendered using semi-transparent effects which serve to expose the bronchioles within.
