The particular type of clay used in creating this head sculpture really lends itself to works not intended for glazing. I often prefer the unglazed look because of the stone-like quality with which it imbues the piece. The clay used in sculpting this head fires to a nice dark-gray-brownish color which helps support the feelings of strength and permanence in a work of art. While the eyes and facial expression are the focus of this piece, the glasses are an interesting visual element as well, conveying the impression of delicate wires in solid clay.
