Before I even started drawing this dog, I knew it would be great fun getting into all of his scruffiness and personality! His hairdo and lovingly mischievous expression are immediately endearing. While his pedigree remains a mystery, it really doesn’t matter. He’s clearly his own animal, and honoring him in this veritable landscape of fur was a satisfying endeavor. Charcoal, being such a direct and tactile medium, is great for a subject like this where texture is such an important part of the image.
