A large number of my figurative oils are painted from life, as was this one.  Her serene expression represents the quietude of a peaceful inner universe, augmented by the simplicity of the composition.  An element of spacial dimension exists, especially with the protrusion of her right arm into our own space, inviting us to participate in her cloistered world of serenity.
