Figure Studies – Colored Pencil & Charcoal on Paper
One of the many commonalities between biomedical illustration and fine art is the importance of figure drawing. “Figure drawing” is a term often used for artists’ sketches and completed drawings depicting the human form. Understanding underlying anatomy goes a long way in helping artists establish realistic surface anatomy to create believable figure drawings. And the converse is also true. Practicing drawing the human figure from life can help loosen the artist’s mind and hand for creating beautiful and lifelike illustrations of medical and scientific subjects.
