Exciting New Year, Exciting New Art on eBay!

Happy New Year everyone!  2012 was indeed an eventful year with the Olympics, a presidential election here in the US, and a narrow escape from the “end of the world” last month!  Quite momentous indeed.  Can you say “Y2K” all over again?  But I jest <I:)  The main thing is we have a wonderful year ahead of us and I’m excited about what’s going on here in the studio.  There will be a number of interesting art exhibitions coming up in 2013.  More on those later.  For now, I just wanted to mention some of my latest art projects incorporating ink and acrylic paint.

I’ve recently been creating brand new paintings in the fantasy genre.  Some of this new artwork is certainly in the traditional vein, realistic, volumetric, and quite detailed, while many of the new paintings are more cartoon-like.  These latter works are the ones I want to introduce here.

Griffin Fantasy Art Painting
“Griffin” Acrylic and Ink painting by Dean Vigyikan

Inspired by many of my recent illustration opportunities in the book, music and education industries, I’ve adapted my style of digital line drawing into a “real-life” ink drawing series, colored with acrylic paints using a loose, watercolor-like style.  The subject?  Fantasy!

Traipsing through this new series of paintings are fairies, giants, knights, dragons and all manner of mythological characters, some traditional and others newly invented right in the studio.  The series is chock full of tongue-in-cheek visual humor and sometimes outright, unapologetic cute-ness.  Although the paintings may indeed be termed “cute”, and I’m fine with that, I hope there’s a also a visual maturity in the rendering of these scenes which appeals to adults as well as kids.  I like to think of these fantasy art subjects as characters in an unwritten story, somehow connected, yet each depicted in it’s own little sub-universe.

As part of the project, I’m making the new paintings available for purchase on eBay.  So far, each piece is basically 6″x8″ and I’ve been introducing one new painting a day (five per week) on that site.  Just enter my name in the search box, or click here, to see what’s currently up for auction.  This is also a fun opportunity to possibly pick up some original artwork at great prices!
