This figurative painting has been compared to the work of artist/illustrator Andrew Loomis. It’s a nice compliment to have received, though it wasn’t my intention to have been imitating any other artist in particular. The employment of loose, expressive brush strokes helps blur the distinction between figure and ground, creating a restful, dreamlike quality to the painting. The subject herself appears to become gradually more corporeal as she emerges from the background, while an ambient light source gently defines the form.
