Daddy Roi – Clay Original
A miniature sculpture of a male lion, ready for bronze casting, is shown here in its original clay form. The title stems from a childhood memory of mine involving the imitation of a lion’s roar, “rah!”, associated with the frequent sighting of a pair of lion statues outside a neighbors home. The word “roi” (roughly pronounced “rah”) is also French for “king”. In my depiction of this particular “king”, I was influenced by baroque sculpture in the exaggeration of the forms within the mane and facial features.
