Commercial Art Drawing & Character Design
A few days ago I posted an article here about painting in a series or group of similar images. I got to thinking how that’s not only a process relevant to fine art. I do a lot of illustration work also and here’s an example of where, at the request of the customer, I got to create an enormous series of similar illustrations in a style that I’ve developed for this particular kind of work. It certainly exercised my creativity to characterize all these species of animals in a common drawing style. Here are a couple examples:
That’s from the American wildlife series. The creatures are meant to be cute, and I like how all the animals are smiling (even if a bit sternly, like the eagle), and all are a little exaggerated like caricatures. I’ll post a few more shortly representing other animal groups and their environments.
