Bronchi Anatomy –  Acrylic on Illustration Board

As an illustrator of medical journals, I’ve had the chance to explore some particular artistic stylings. For this image I wanted a two-dimensional looking background that would compliment the primary foreground information. It seemed a perfect opportunity to pay homage to an important figure in the history of medical art by emulating the feeling of Leonardo da Vinci’s pioneering, and now iconic, anatomical studies. This piece was created using acrylics. So rendering the background was an interesting process of simulating the appearance of a reddish charcoal drawing on parchment by using brush and paint to achieve the effect.
