Artists Need Memorial Day
It’s Memorial Day here in the United States. Happy Memorial Day everyone, and a special thanks to all you veterans and those serving in our U.S. Armed Forces in any capacity. I have a special place in my heart for those who sacrifice their time, talents, and often so much more to keep this great nation free. As an artist, I believe I speak on behalf of many, including other artists, when I express special gratitude for the myriad freedoms we enjoy in this country, including the freedom to express ourselves as we choose, to live the life of our dreams and to let our own conscience be our guide rather than the dictates of those who would oppress the human spirit.
I believe the founding fathers of the United States of America were inspired of God, as are the documents which they framed, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I believe the United States was established by divine intervention as a bastion of freedom where eternal rights granted by God to human kind are to be protected. The safeguarding of these rights is the purpose for which this country was established. I believe her great flag of freedom will always fly high as a symbol to the world of the sanctity and dignity of each individual and his or her right to live, think, speak, worship, achieve, and serve as that individual pleases, knowing that those rights are sustained, sanctioned and protected by the Constitution.
Not only on this day but throughout the year I often remember that, as I am creating a work of art, a painting, a sculpture, a drawing for a book or another commissioned artwork, I am exercising many freedoms, including the freedom of expression. I also remember that, without the dedication of our fine servicemen and women, these freedoms would have been taken from us long ago. God bless America, and our wonderful servicemen and women and their families!
