Thigh Muscles –  Charcoal on Clay Paper

Musculature, especially in anatomical drawings, carries a fair degree of inherent visual comprehensibility due to the striations which naturally lead the eye from one point to another, from origin to insertion. Additionally, since muscles tend to be among the more voluminous organs of the body, the artist can work with relatively broad areas of light and shadow, which facilitates clear differentiation of one muscle from another. This illustration is mostly about the anterior muscles of the thigh, although a few other structures are on view as well, such as the femoral nerve and femoral artery.
