Abdominal Anatomy – Acrylic on Paper
Medical illustrations are sometimes presented in a way which reveals underlying anatomy by displacing organs which would normally cover what’s being shown. Such is the case in this image which represents a dissection in which the liver is lifted and the stomach pulled down to reveal the inferior vena cava, descending aorta, and other vasculature. Also indicated are portions of the gall bladder and pancreas. Interestingly, though the gall bladder is often depicted in green, its natural, living color may be described as nearly a robin’s egg blue.
