Forearm Muscles – Watercolor on Illustration Board
Watercolor is one of the traditional media which lends itself well to medical art. I think part of the reason is the transparency of the paint which gives an effect of integrating the illustrations into the pages on which they’re printed, such as in a medical textbook. This integration helps the paintings appear comfortable as part of an overall page design including text and labels. The illustration shown here was created by referencing one of my sketchbooks where I’d been drawing directly from a cadaver dissection.
