Every pet owner knows that his or her best animal friend is unique. Violet the beagle’s shy but gentle personality shows through in her demeanor, her facial expression, and, to me at least, even in her posture. These are the types of nuances I like to convey in pet portraiture. In addition to the cuteness of the subject of this painting, I enjoyed playing with the loose brushwork used in visually relating the dog to her environment.
