Grimms Fairy Tales Art Exhibition
As recently mentioned, I’ve been working with some new materials and techniques in creating my latest projects, including two new fantasy themed artworks. The pair of sculptures is inspired by the announcement and invitation to participate in a group art exhibition based on Grimms Fairy Tales. I was really excited to hear about this upcoming show and to have the opportunity to participate. The venue is VanOver Fine Arts in Springville, NY, the same location as my solo show this past summer.

Included in the show will be paintings and sculptures by some ten or more artists, many of whom have previously shown in solo exhibitions at the VFA gallery. This special event, simply entitled “The Grimm Show”, kicks off the Halloween season and serves as the opening act for a series of amusing activities planned for Springville this October, including a parade, a “zombie scavenger hunt”, and other festive seasonal fun. The show will be hosted in the “B-Side” gallery adjacent to the main gallery where there’s another exhibition running concurrently.
In addition to having a blast creating the two new sculptures for this show, I’ve been really excited to see what the other artists have come up with. For many of us, this Grimm show is right up our alley, asking for imaginative works of fantasy and our own interpretations and inspirations based on the classic fairy tales compiled by the Grimm brothers. These literary works have been the basis of so many movies, paintings, stage works, tv shows, and other art pieces over the years that they have truly become interwoven into our western cultural heritage and our contemporary pop culture. One aspect that makes the Grimm tales so immortal is their seemingly endless potential for new interpretations, adaptations and spin-offs. The opportunity of creating new fantasy sculptures around this theme dovetails nicely with my ongoing interest in fantasy inspired art as a whole, which has already appeared in some of my previous sculptures and paintings.
“The Grimm Show” opens on Saturday, October 5th, with a public reception from 6-10 PM. I expect many of the artists will be there to meet and mingle. VanOver Fine Arts always puts on lovely receptions for their shows. I plan on attending the earlier part of the reception since I’ve got double duty that night, so I hope to have the chance for plenty of “meet and greet”, and to enjoy the many imaginative artworks in this unique exhibition. Hope to see you there!
