This artwork is part of a small series I refer to as my gypsy sculptures.  It’s a careful anatomical study from direct observation, but whose limbs are allowed to gradually merge with the ground texture.  It’s similar to some of my paintings in which the subject becomes more resolved as it emerges from the background.  The sculpture depicts a youthful gypsy at rest.  The mildly uncomfortable position of the body and suggestion of an earthen floor denote the inherent challenges of a nomadic lifestyle.
