Draft Horse – Cast Plaster – 12” x 10” x 5”* Private Collection
The work horse in this sculpture is rendered in a more classical style than his companion Clyde. The process of creating this plaster sculpture began by creating a clay sculpture and then covering it with a thick layer of plaster. When the plaster hardened, the clay was removed and the plaster casing became what’s called a “waste mold”. The inside of the mold was then coated with a thin soapy layer called a “release agent”. Plaster was then poured into the mold and allowed to harden. Finally, the sculpture was released by chiseling away the waste mold, leaving only its contents behind.
