More Critter Art – Fun Stuff from a Huge Series
OK, as promised here are some more samples from the gigantic series of line art created for a single customer. I’ll probably post many of these on my Design Page, if I haven’t already, since they are good examples of a consistent style carried through an extended project. I call it line art, since it’s the loose and sketchy line quality which defines the art style. However, the rough outlines are leant a great deal of character by the contrasting softness of airbrushed color on the animals.
These are taken from the series covering Australian wildlife and other species of eastern origin. For sure, the project has been an education in zoology for me. I’ve learned about exotic creatures ranging from the palm civet to the tiger quoll to the moon jellyfish. I’m sometimes amused by how much I enjoy cartooning, having focused so much more on things like oil painting, both in school and since. I think it’s kind of like cross training in athletics. Doing one can actually make you better for the other.
